DJLF CHARITY FOUNDATION

“Dreamers, Doers… Together!”

What is DJLF Charity Foundation?

The main advocacy of DJLF Charity Foundation, a non-profit organization, is the education and development of the youth, especially the economically disadvantaged youth in developing countries, the Philippines in particular.

The willingness to help was always at the surface. The ability to help – the ultimate commitment to an advocacy – took time to percolate. The vision of giving back, paying back if you will, to the Philippine Military Academy and its environs, including the country at large, for what we gained and achieved as PMAyers, materialized with the thought that it was not out of line, at the start, to have fun in the process. With the ups and downs of the Dow Jones when DJLF was conceptualized, the DJLF was born shooting for the moon if not the stars. DJLF, as in Dumb Jones Loakan Fun Club.  Education was the key to where we got to be. It will be the same key to those who like us needed help to pursue their dreams. This we believe.

At the beginning, DJLF Foundation established a college scholarship fund for high school graduates of the Baguio City National High School inside Fort Del Pilar, home of our Alma Mater, PMA – graduates who otherwise would be unable to pursue a college degree without help from others like us. The scholars now are from the different regions of the Philippines.

So, what started out as fun is now a joy to behold, the metamorphosis, compleat: DJLF, the Dumb Jones Loakan Fun club to DJLF Foundation to DJLF Charity Foundation.

Our mantra: Towards a long and lasting Loakan Fund in support of LEAP: Loakan Educational Assistance Project with the Youth Scholarship Program (YSP) as its core component. The others: Faculty Development Program (FDP); Facility Improvement Program (FIP); Training Aids Program (TAP); and Leadership and Placement Program (LPP).

Loakan is where the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) is. Loakan is the home of our youthful dreams. Loakan is one of the reasons for what we have become today, to include our desire to be of service: giving back to Loakan what we got from her when we were young and thus, our commitment towards the education of the youth of Loakan and the rest of the country – and the world.

Through LEAP, DJLF has five programs, with the Youth Scholarship Program as the core component. This program provides financial support, basically for tuition, textbooks and other expenses, to qualified high school students who otherwise could not afford a college education on their own. Each year, the program supports a set of scholars selected on the basis of financial need and academic qualifications.
